I’ve come to believe running a business isn’t all that different from running a kitchen.
There are recipes that flop, ingredients that go bad, and those glorious “a little of this, a little of that” moments that somehow just work.
But just like cooking, business runs smoother when you find your rhythm — and stop trying to use someone else’s recipe.
When I first started my business, I was guilty of collecting everything. Courses, templates, tools, you name it. My version of “digital clutter” looked a lot like an overstuffed pantry — full, but not functional.
And I learned the hard way that having more ingredients doesn’t make a better meal.
So now I start simple. I ask myself:
What do I already have that’s working?
What’s expired or collecting dust?
What could be re-used or repurposed into something new?
That mindset shift alone freed up so much mental space — and time I didn’t realize I was wasting chasing the next shiny thing.
Some people thrive on batch cooking and planning every detail a week ahead. Others love to cook by feel, throwing things together as inspiration strikes.
Your business is the same way.
If you’re a planner, you might love automations, content calendars, and quarterly goals.
If you’re more intuitive, your systems should leave space for creativity and flow — maybe that means lighter planning and weekly resets instead.
There’s no one right way to do this. The secret is finding your balance between structure and spontaneity — and building your systems around that.
Every meal has a few core ingredients.
For your business, that might be:
✅ One main offer that lights you up
✅ One marketing channel you actually enjoy
✅ One tech system that helps you stay organized
That’s it. You don’t need to juggle 10 platforms or build a six-layer marketing cake. A simple, nourishing recipe works best — every single time.
This one took me years to learn.
You don’t have to get it perfect the first time.
You don’t have to stick with something forever.
Like any good cook, you’re allowed to adjust seasoning as you go — to try something new, swap an ingredient, or tweak a step that isn’t working anymore.
Your business evolves as you do. And that’s the beauty of it.
The best businesses, like the best meals, are built with love, patience, and permission to be imperfect.
Start with what you have.
Simplify the ingredients.
And create a rhythm that fits your life — not someone else’s.
Because at the end of the day, your business should feel like a kitchen you want to be in.
